Tridente Resto Bar is a spacious café and bar close to the action of downtown and the major thoroughfare of 9 de Julio, yet set back on Rivadavia before it becomes an avenue. Offering a quiet spot within the heart of the city is no easy task, but Tridente’s high ceiling and broad spaces, do just that. They make use of their corner location with large windows letting in light and which give customers a view of Argentine street-life. For large groups it is a perfect space where tables are arranged and may be re-arranged to suit, without too many elbows gone awry. The open layout gives customers views of just what goes on behind the scenes of Tridente: busy chefs, stealthy wait staff and grave management are all on display. If quiet space is preferred there is space away from both the bustle of the street and the kitchen, at a table against the soothing burnt sierra walls, and their accompanying earthy theme. Open from seven in the morning, Tridente is a great spot for the typical breakfast of coffee and mini-croissants – get three of these pastries plus the caffeine for $4.50AR. Or there is a heartier menu on offer throughout the day with possibilities such as omelettes with ham ($7.50AR), accompanying the traditional options of pasta, milanesa (crumbed schnitzel), and salads. To wash it down, three-quarters of the local favourite Quilmes (pronounced, before and after consumption: kill-mes) goes for the same price as an omelette ($7.50AR) or customers may choose the other beer advertised on their flashing neon lights, Budweiser. —Tridente Resto Bar review by Murdoch Stephens
