A Charming little restaurant in the San Cristóbal area (near San Telmo and Constitución), Niño Bien offers a very reasonably priced menu and a cheerful atmosphere. The restaurant is almost purely frequented by local Argentines, with the lunchtime period dominated by businessmen or less formally dressed porteños on their break from work. The evening atmosphere feels much more vibrant. Pure white and pastel yellow table decorations have an added glow to them under the tasteful synthetic light. On Thursdays a salon next door holds a milonga making Niño Bien an extremely convenient place to dine before trying ones hand at a spot of Tango. The menu consists of the ever-present parilla and various pastas, but what will catch customers’ eyes is the innovative selection of salads. There is nothing extravagant about this restaurant, from the white walls down to the simple watercolours hung on them. Rather than being a criticism, this stripped down image works in the restaurants favour, giving it a subtle charm . Due to its location it is normally not hard to get a table, but call ahead on Saturdays as the restaurant can get surprisingly full due to its popularity with locals. There is free parking next to the restaurant. —Niño Bien review by Paul Smithson
