Buenos Aires is invariably a wine-lover’s playground, but at Miramar diners will be bowled over by the selection of over 300 wines to choose from. The decor consists of countless wine bottles lining the high walls, with traditional wood paneling and furniture providing a timelessly elegant image to compliment the sophisticated menu. But with so many wines to pick from it can be hard to make a choice. Here come the waiters to the rescue who are only too happy to advise customers. As well as their knowledge of which wine suits which food, recommendations also come in the shape of the waiters’ personal favourites and they certainly seem to know what they are talking about. Impressively, Miramar’s menu almost matches its wine list in terms of diversity. There are intriguing daily specials to choose from, such as rabbit and spider crab and ingredients are always daily fresh. In winter they have a selection of hot soups to warm ones cockles and delicacies such as snails and frogs adorn the menu all year round to give the menu a little individuality and internationality at the same time. Miramar is very reasonably priced considering the quality and variety of food. Expect to pay up to $30AR for your meal. If you fancy some light entertainment while eating, head down on a Sunday when bandoneón player Julio Pane begins his magic around 10pm, though the entrance fee jumps up to $7AR for the performance. —Miramar review by Paul Smithson
