Having a meal here is like eating in a warm country kitchen.  Heavy oak wine barrels give off a rustic bodega air, while antique glass jars line the windowsills and strings of cured hams hang from the ceiling.  A deep-set, wide wooden bar and vast, beautifully maintained parilla dominate the high, raftered space as La Vineria de Montserrat effortlessly combines two of the things Argentina does best – beef and red wine.

Standing out amongst a cluster of smaller bars and shops in this busy little pocket of Montserrat, La Vineria is a large, lofty parilla catering to an upper-end market of business lunch parties and family gatherings. As formally dressed waiters weave in and out of heavy-clothed tables and green leather chairs the place buzzes to the sound of clinking glasses, happy chatter and sizzling piles of meat.

The menu covers all desirable parilla options and cheery chalked up blackboards display the special cuts of the day.  Despite being one of the more upmarket parillas, prices are still reasonable - bife de chorizo for $17AR and lomo for $22AR.  The menu del dia offers either a pasta or meat dish with desert and a glass of wine for a reasonable $15AR, making it a popular lunchtime hangout.
