Beside Lotos on Córdoba, and in three other Buenos Aires locales (plus one in Bariloche) is the La Esquina de las Flores: a chain that is home to restaurants and health food stores. Originally located on a corner (obvio), La Esquina de las Flores, has retained their name despite a move. All of their ingredients are organic, a focus which extends to such decadence as organic, virgin-olive oil liberally provided on-table for the diners whim. The Córdoba location is the flagship operation and is reviewed here. Even driving past, it is difficult to miss the wholesome mural which teases city workers with visions of sunflowers and the serene country life. The ground floor is as crammed as any other restaurant in the city. After wriggling past those granola-buying, organic walnut crunchomg, and whole bread hoarders, a small serving counter is finally reached. The rear of the ground floor hosts the fast-food to go, and is surrounded by a few benches where tight-for-time locals chow down on a few different varieties of spinach pie slices ($6AR), although the menu changes daily. Upstairs the healthiness of La Esquina de las Flores food is matched by a tranquil environment. With light streaming through the sunroof, fresh air-conditioning, and views of the street bustle below, the restaurant part of La Esquina de las Flores is the best choice for people with time for table service. Sadly, the bane of style - art-deco - creeps in with lashings of turquoise, although some may wish to preserve the sanctity of the restaurant by describing it as lime green. There is a broad range of food available from the restaurant – a full plate of salads, rice and beans for $9AR, while a sandwich with a soy patty, lettuce, tomato and some yellowish chutney sells for $4.50AR. While service downstairs can be haughty, upstairs the smiles and greetings match those from neighbouring Lotus. —La Esquina de las Flores | The Corner of Flowers review by Murdoch Stephens
