From the large glasses of fresh squeezed juices for just $3AR to the palette pleasing tofu pizza with olives (AR$15), Flor de Lino is a vegetarians delight – and smack dab in the middle of the parilla-happy San Telmo neighborhood. While the smell of smoked chorizo fills the nearby streets, the delightful staff at Flor de Lino are sautéing fresh vegetables, pureeing tofu for milanesas, and steaming rice for rich risottos. For vegetarians (and meat-eaters in need of some vitamins), this charming, cozy restaurant is home to some fantastically well-priced and creative dishes. The salads, pizzas, cazuelas de arroz (risottos), tartas, and desserts are all tasty and fresh.

There are only about 20 tables available in Flor de Lino and the restaurant’s main feature is the dance floor in the back. There is tango dancing (milonga) on Friday and Sunday late night which absolutely sizzles sensuality yet remains accessible as clueless twenty-something’s trip over their own feet side-by-side with older tango pros. Get there before 10pm or make a reservation to ensure seating.

The dinner-show action really heats up around midnight and doesn’t quit until at least 2am. For wallflowers, the incomparable Ana Postigo holds beginners classes at 9pm on Sunday before the lights go down. The class is enjoyable for those with even minimal Spanish and Ana is friendly and inclusive. This is a wonderful choice for beginners as well as being a community favorite. Many neighboring dance teachers and restaurateurs will even stop by for a spin around the dance floor. A $10AR donation gets you a wonderful introductory hour of instruction.
