Great Argentine fare and a homey atmosphere await diners at El Portugués in Las Cañitas. Photo by Gena Mavuli.

Pricier than its other trendy neighbors in Las Cañitas with enormous portions of beef and a laid-back, homey atmosphere, El Portugués is a sure to please. Ropes of garlic cloves hang from the rafters, the walls are painted peach, and the tables are clothed with red and green plaid and brown paper. This standard Argentine parilla, spices its menu up a bit with whiskey marinades, cream sauces, mushrooms, and greens. Chicken and pork are the other meat options as well as usual suspects: pasta, pizza, and milanesas.

The house specialty comes with rice, celery, cream, peppers, and Spanish-style potatoes. They also make a mean tiramisu for dessert. All of the entrees, priced between $10-45AR are intended to be shared by at least two people. El Portugués also features air conditioning and outdoor seating. A nice, unpretentious option in an otherwise glitzy area. Credit Cards accepted.
