Diablada is the warm country kitchen and sunny-side veranda rolled into one. This bustling parilla is distinct from numerous similar choices by the all terracotta tiles and red check tablecloths. The meat is excellent, the atmosphere inviting and the prices fair. A wide spacious balcony dripping with lush plants with seating for about twenty conects to the central space below by a sweeping wooden staircase. A vast, sizzling parilla dominates the back half of Diablada with mozos busying back and forth with sumptuous boards of asado. Dark metal wine racks and hand painted fileta tango signs make up the simple décor of this large but homey restaurant. Assorted tables of shirt-sleeved office workers and family parties gather for lunch and evening meals taking advantage of the warm friendly atmosphere and likewise prices. Offering predominantly parilla, a bife de lomo is priced at $17AR, while a larger bife de chorizo is $19.5AR. A popular option is the costillar del parillero – an assortment of meat cuts to share - $27AR. For non meat-eaters and those who’ve simply had too much Argentine steak, there are pasta and salads from between $10-20AR. From this gastronomic pocket of Montserrat, Diablada delights in presenting the parilla option. For some quality Argentine beef in a styled but unpretentious atmosphere spot this large, orange-painted building, and make a bee-line for it. All in all it’s a fail-safe bet for a cracking lunchtime steak or a jolly evening meal, whatever the occasion. —Diablada review by Tessa Pettman
