To put it simply Che Tango dazzles. This sultry spectacle, with singing and dancing, in a theatre-lit, staged and styled hot-shot Boca tango show, has got to be one of the most illustrious acts in town. Set in a revamped warehouse way in the hidden haunts of La Boca, Che Tango promises world class dancing and glittering entertainment in the barrio where tango was born. Set in striking contrast against run-down destitute surroundings, this former abandoned warehouse has been converted into a magnificent theatre-like hall. A large central stage is surrounded by varying levels of tables to fit literally hundreds of people. A full tango orchestra and two grand pianos flank the stage, but what is really striking, is the view. Covering floor to ceiling over each of the four walls, are underlit printed images displaying a 360 degree view of Buenos Aires. With 9 de Julio behind, the Microcentro to the sides and Recoleta in front, visitors can take in the dazzling show while savouring a three course dinner. The show includes a cast of sixteen dancers and musicians. Beautifully choreographed dance routines captivate the audience, while tango singers and folklore performers amaze and delight in their turn. As one of the more professional tango shows in town, tickets do not come cheap. Dinner and show tickets are $200AR per person with an option to extend to $450AR for VIP treatment. The menu includes a tempting variety of dishes from carpaccio de lomo and marinated olive chicken to ice cream and chocolate brownies with equally desirable vegetarian options. VIP ticket holders can expect preferential seating, a more exotic menu variety and of course the champagne treatment. Che Tango also offers a drink show ticket for those not wanting to flash quite so much cash. For $150AR a head visitors receive a soft drink, beer or glass of wine, or a bottle of wine between two while enjoying the show. A VIP drink show ticket affords a bottle of champagne in addition. The show begins around 10pm lasting a couple of hours. Visitors are advised to take a taxi there and back. —Che Tango review by Tessa Pettman
