Thanks to its mixed European cultural heritage, Buenos Aires has some of the best Italian food this side of Italy and Campo dei Fiori is a another fine contributor to that well-deserved reputation. Here, it is all about pasta, pasta, and pasta. Sit and watch skilful chefs in the open kitchen making over 25 different varieties of fresh daily pastas – cannelloni, ravioli, tagliatelle, spaghetti, penne, fusili, gnocchi and streams of other unheard-of, unimaginable, unpronounceable names. The restaurant itself is homely without being fussily decorated. Bare-bricked walls are adorned with the occasional antique paintings or sculptures and clean cotton tablecloths cover the light wooden furniture. Waiters bustle cheerfully about tending to tables of content customers who come to enjoy a steaming plate of pasta during the busy lunch and dinner time hours. The pastas themselves range from the simplest tallarines at $3.5AR to the most expensive ‘Noquis del Fiori’ for $11.50AR and the choice of sauces comes at an additional price. That given, prices can differ considerably depending on choice of pasta and sauce combo, raning from the $5.5AR pesto to salmon for $19AR. The menu also offers pizzas around the $20AR mark as well as some meat and rice dishes. The wine list is as equally impressive as it is varied with an abundance of choices ranging from $15AR to $128AR a bottle. The restaurant is open until 3am every day of the week and evening reservations are recommended. —Campo dei Fiori review by Tessa Pettman
