Judging by the super-tidy atmosphere, broken Spanish, and high-volume English, visiting Americans seem to have found something familiar and enjoyable in the California Burrito Company. Though carting a much lower profile than places like McDonald’s or Burger King (and subsequently the scorn of tourists hoping to avoid corporate America in Buenos Aires), this new concept restaurant founded by three Americans has found success in peddling a delicacy almost impossible to find in this city: the overstuffed burrito.

While not quite authentic Mexican-American cuisine, the style and size of CBC’s burritos is requisite with what’s to be expected in the States, and they include ingredients like sour cream, guacamole, and hot sauce (to the customer’s liking, of course). These condiments top your choice of grilled steak or chicken, shredded beef, or braised pork combined with rice and pinto or black beans, as well as five different options of homemade salsas (also hard to find here in BA), shredded cheese, and sautéed peppers and onions. One can basically get any combination of all the ingredients for around the same price - $9-$10AR. A bottle of Corona or Negra Modelo and Haagen Dazs ice cream complete the meal. CBC also has also offers free Wi-Fi, though very few customers take advantage of this perk. It’s on the expensive side of microcentro lunch spots, but anyone craving Mexican-American food and a full stomach will be satisfied with what they find here.
