The smell of coffee will hit you before you even get in the door and you will quickly realize why there is no room for Starbucks culture (or why you won't see even ONE) in Buenos Aires. A sign greets customers ‹ and timid tourists with a friendly, "Don't worry… We speak English too!" and the staff are fast moving and eager to please. This is a world of delicious caffeinated beverages from café con leche, to specialty coffee with nips, tucks, swirls, and stirs, to liquor-laced after-dinner treats.

Café Martinez has perfected the art of keeping the coffee moving over the years by expanding the menu to include a range of quick-lunch favorites like tartas, sandwiches, and salads - perfect for porteños on the go. The funky coffee machine in the back and historic photos of the company's founder's help to pep up the space. The company has been going strong since 1933 and the success is due in part to the impeccable customer service. If you like what you taste, several varieties of coffee are available to purchase at bulk prices and boxes of chocolaty souvenirs are on hand. Come for the puckering-sweet iced coffee. Stay for the WiFi.
