Don’t be thrown off by the imposing wooden sign that screams “Basque Pride!” hanging over the entranceway to this well-established restaurant.  It is simply a sentiment to the owner’s roots. Burzaco is a small town and Basque community located just outside the city center - and not at all reminiscent of what is to be found behind these antique doors.  Basque-Argentine is the flavor at this elegant and inviting restaurant where power lunches, family meals, and romantic evenings all take place under the same rustic roof.

The white painted brick walls adorned with local contemporary artwork, high ceilings accented by golden grapevine borders, and the 1950’s black and white checked floors give the restaurants room a feeling of funky elegance.  A small bar in the back of the restaurant serves as an overflow spot when the restaurants room fills, as it often does.

Unlike many of the restaurants in the surrounding area, Burzako has more of a local feel.  It is not uncommon to see the owner floating from table to table checking in personally with patrons.  Service from the friendly and attractive wait staff is unusually attentive for Argentine standards.

Burzako is a popular spot for weekday lunches.  This is because the menu del dia, with three selections including starter, main, dessert, and drink ranges from $17AR-$32AR and is fantastic.  If the menu del dia is not of interest the regular menu is just as delicious and offers a variety of starters and entrees with a touch of Basque influence including hare stew with chocolate and rice ($25AR) and bulls tail glazed in red wine.  Fig rolls with warm chocolate sauce ($11AR) are one of the many unique desserts on offer.  The wine list is mainly Argentine and champagne and a select amount of spirits are available.

The large shadow of a big black cow marks the entranceway to the basement which turns into a bar on weekends and sometimes hosts local bands.
