Bar Seddon is the perfect San Telmo establishment. Old, full of character, and run-down in a charming sort of way, it's the type of place where you break up with someone you used to love, or come alone with a good book and a pack of smokes. Perhaps the black and white tile floor, 20-foot ceilings, and old latin jazz (think "Girl from Ipanema") just create an atmosphere of dreary romanticism. Regardless, it's hard to beat the prices—$5 -$11 for beer, glasses of wine for $6 and bottles for as low as $10, and liquors from $7-$12. The simple Porteno menu ranges from $6-$15, and includes such standbys as picadas, milanesas, pastas, and pizza, along with hamburgers and "bife de chorizo." It's almost a shame Bar Seddon is so popular, because it's easiest to soak up the ambience when the place is empty. But for social types, there are tango classes on Wednesdays, and live jazz and blues on weekends. Bar Seddon is certainly an anachronism, but there's a reason it remains a fixture of the Buenos Aires scene.
