As if the combination of pizza, board games and imported beers wasn’t enough, Virasoro Bar also offers some of the best live Jazz in Buenos Aires.  When we throw in the fact that they’re based in a masterpiece of 1920s art deco architecture and cook some seriously tasty crepes, it shouldn’t be too hard to understand why this charming little spot in one of Palermo’s leafy residential areas has become so popular.

Virasoro Bar is seriously laid-back and has a real bohemian ambience.  There are paintings by local artists on the walls and a number of original features; like marble floors and a huge stained glass window giving it that feel of an artists’ and musicians’ hang-out.  It’s easy to relax around the quaint old wooden tables, maybe read the paper as you sip a beer or coffee. But if you’re in the mood for some fun and games scrabble, monopoly and other classics are available to brighten up your day.  Like many bars in Buenos Aires Virasoro stays open from breakfast till after midnight, so you can stop by for coffee and a croissant in the morning, come back in around lunch, and then settle in for your dinner and a night’s carousing around sundown.  Of course, you don’t have to do it all in a day!

The menu is refreshingly rich in salads, including a chicken, tuna, and even vegetarian option; not always the case in meat loving Argentina.  The choice of crepes also includes a ricotta and spinach treat for you veggies out there.  This is in addition to staples like Milanesas as well as a few pasta dishes.  All meals are priced around the $12AR mark, but look out for the daily specials, which throw up some real bargains.  The recommendation though is pizza and this goes double for Wednesday night, which is “Pizza Libre” night.  This means live jazz, food and fun, and all for only $6AR at the door.  Pizza Libre kicks off at 8pm and keeps going for as long as the band and the guests are having fun, usually 2am or beyond.  The same goes for the Thursday and Saturday gigs.  The beer selection is exclusively European with Warsteiner, Heineken and Guinness to choose from.  Prices go from $4.50AR for a small glass to $11AR for a liter.  Wines are also reasonable, ranging from $15 to $33AR, with glasses of the house red available for $4AR a pop.
