Buenos Aires is the city in the world with the most psychotherapists, so it should come as no surprise that the father of psychoanalysis has given his name not only to the charming Palermo neighborhood of Villa Freud, but also one of its restaurants, Sigi. Their menu tells us he changed his name to the more formal Sigmund once his career took off. Keeping with the theme, Sigi's logo is that drawing that looks both like an old man and a female nude, familiar to Psych 101 students. Otherwise, this is quite a conventional family restaurant. The chairs have not been replaced with couches and the waiters take orders without probing into the subconscious desires of the guests. There is an abundance of plants and the walls are decorated with wildlife paintings. On the whole the décor is a bit old fashioned. The patio outside is more inviting with lampposts and plaster cherubs decorating a large seating area that opens onto Plaza Güemes. During the summer this is a peaceful little oasis where visitors can take a break from the hustle and bustle of nearby Avenida Santa Fe and relax with a nice cool drink in the shade of the palm trees in the plaza. Like many Buenos Aires eateries, Sigi stays open all day and well into the night, offering a range of breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Early birds can enjoy croissants and coffee for as little as $5AR from 7am, whereas an extensive selection of salads, pizzas and pastas, in addition to a host of hot and cold sandwiches, are served until well past midnight. Prices are generally quite affordable at around the $15-20AR mark for a main course. There's also an abundance of barbecued steaks, sausages, and more steaks on the menu. The wine list is not as extensive and offers Argentinean reds and whites from between $10 and $32AR. For those hot summer nights on the patio there are quite a few cocktails on offer, all priced at $15AR. —Sigi review by Johan Jensen
