Some of the finest Italian cuisine at one of the more interesting locations in Buenos Aires can be found at Piegari.  Located in the area of Recoleta known as La Recova, Piegari’s two restaurants (which are across the street from one another) sit just underneath the highway overpass where Av. de Julio and Av. Libertador meet.  Both are a bit on the pricey side and neither will disappoint but the more formal (Piegari Ristorante) specializes in Italian dishes while the other (Piegari Vitello e Dolce) is mainly parilla style.

The bright, bustling restaurants room of Piegari’s flagship, Ristorante, is full of bow tie and vest clad waiters and a quirky and diverse cast of clientele.  Local high rollers and tourists alike chow down on massive portions of homemade pastas and risottos accompanied by a perfect proportion of delicious classic and specialty sauces.  The folks at Piegari are no strangers to garlic or the importance of the pasta to sauce ratio—two elements often lacking in other Italian restaurants around the city.  The wine list is more like a wine book and includes a savvy selection of Argentina’s finest wines spanning all price ranges.  The wait and maitre'd staff are trained to make you feel special as soon as you set foot in the door.  Waiting for a table is a possibility any night of the week but don’t fret you will immediately be handed a glass and kept entertained by a bottomless flow of chilled champagne as you wait.

There is a selection of classic Italian desserts, but chances are there won't be much room left for sweets when the time comes.  Instead it may be more realistic to finish off a nice bottle of wine or sip on a coffee while taking in the lively atmosphere that stays energetic even into the wee hours of BA's restaurants scene.
