Nestled among the shady streets of Palermo Viejo is Oui Oui. BA’s shabby chic spot for sipping a café con leche or weekend brunch is somewhat reminiscent of an afternoon in Paris’ own Monmarte and is always crowded with posh locals catching up on their reading, clicking away on their laptops, or just enjoying a coffee and a sweet.
A black and white striped Parisian style awning marks Oui Oui’s presence on a less traveled end of Nicaraguaand only begins to paint a picture of the creative yet homey touches to be found within. Wind through the pink wooden fold out chairs and tables and stumble upon the fresh baked breads, muffins, and cakes that line the back counter. Dozens of dried rose bouquets decorate an entire wall and upside down wicker baskets turned lights hang from the ceiling.
A large blackboard inside lists Oui Oui’s daily offering of salads, soups, sandwiches, and specials. The lettuce is some of the freshest in town and many of the main dishes are accented with ingredients like avocado, sun dried tomato and pesto. Service is friendly, helpful, and bi-lingual. All classic café beverages are available, as well as wine by the carafe, and even lemonade. The chocolate cake served with fresh whipped cream is out of this world.
Oui Oui warrants a lazy afternoon for any café lover and if the sun is shining there are sidewalk tables for fresh air and people watching.
