For the past five years owner Manoj Menghani has been feeding Porteño and tourist bellies warm with Indian curries by keeping it all in the family. Mumbai is the younger cousin of Menghani’s Katmandu Indian restaurant on Av. Córdoba, which is now run by his eldest son. Mumbai is very much a family-run place with Menghani and his wife supervising the welfare of their customers and it feels properly Indian with soothing orange walls, flattering lighting, eastern touches, and Indian music lulling you into a basmati rice trance. The sepia toned photographs of Bombay down memory lane are definitely worth a second look. Slow cooked curried meats can be prepared to your spiciness specifications and everything arriving at the table is aromatic and flavorful. Particular treats are the separate section for vegetarians and the fresh-feeling environment created by placing the smoking section upstairs. The menu is short but well-selected making this a better choice for those dying for Indian food rather than a specific dish. A great deal is the lunch special for $22AR that allows you to try out the cuisine without committing to dinner prices. The wine and beer lists are very small but your food will make up for it. The dishes are a treat to those missing the flavor of India. —Mumbai review by Clare Nisbet
