Mêlée is a stylish french-style resto-bar in the busy microcentro barrio. Despite its location it retains a certain calmness as it is tucked away at the back of a tiny plaza on Calle Viamonte. The decor is simple yet effective. Pure white walls at the front of the bar switch to turquoise at the back, with white spray paint artistically spread around the latter to good effect. Though the restaurant is not very big, the elegant wooden chairs and tables are all quite far apart from each other. Combined with the high ceilings this gives Mêlée a spacious feel. The back of the restaurant is dominated by the colourfuly painted bar, though eyes may wander to the right of this to the quirky seating area made up of old cinema seats.

The menu is a mix of French dishes and Argentine cooking, with daily specials providing variety to the main menu. A selection of cocktails are available at around $8AR to $10AR, though the restaurant is more appealing for its classy french ambience and french cuisine than for its drinks. Rock and pop tunes from the 70s up to the present day are played all day and night. Having this music playing rather than old french songs gives Mêlée a modern -though slightly less traditionally French - ambience. Its location makes it perfect for a morning coffee before exploring the centre of Buenos Aires, or an afternoon drink or meal when a break from the hustle-bustle is necessary.
