La Popular is a football themed restaurant with a difference, namely the food is good and the surroundings are clean and elegant. Dark wooden chairs and tables fill the medium sized restaurant, while football memorabilia takes up every other inch available. The red brick walls are covered in framed shirts and pictures of players old and new. From the ceiling hang an enormous amount of football shirts from every corner of the world - from an old Croation national shirt to the current Boca Juniors strip. As well as these shirts there are an abundance of football boots hanging over the parilla by their laces, and a few pairs of goalie gloves over the till. With this sort of decór La Popular is obviously a perfect place to go on a Sunday to catch a game from the Argentine league an to this end there are televisions dotted around the restaurant, strategically placed for easy viewing You can be guaranteed to be surrounded by passionate fans of the sport too, and all are only too delighted to offer there thoughts on players and teams. The food on offer abides by the strict porteño diet of succulent meat perfectly cooked, a number of pastas and a few light salads. The parilla is very well stocked with all the different cuts of meat and some excellently prepared specials such as Brochettes. There are actually some interesting slightly heavier salads which can be a delicious alternative for those who need a break from meat. Plus there are a couple specials that are cooked away from the parilla such as grilled salmon and a wok-fried pork dish.
