Wandering around this neighborhood can be so daunting with its wealth of fine, ethnic cuisine. The options are literally dizzying and hungry diners can end up spoilt for choice and wandering the streets with a case of low blood sugar just trying to decide. When the popular eateries are full, savvy, money-conscious, empty-bellied locals slip into quiet and unassuming La Mia Casa Pizzería.

La Mia Casa is composed of about 5-10 tables (depending on how many are pushed together), half-painted salmon colored walls, and a bookshelf displaying some of the day’s delicacies. The environment is appropriately underwhelming, putting the entire focus of the place on the main attraction – the food. The owners’ welcome is warm and friendly and this is the kind of place where diners may receive a hearty provecho from anyone walking in the door.

The reason to visit is the unique Arabian-influenced menu. Each day the owners prepare a variety of delicious dishes. Entradas include empanadas árabes, kepe (similar to falafel), and Madul (flatbread with meat). Mains change daily and the curious can always order a variety of dishes to share. Delightful dishes include roasted eggplant, mind-blowing tabouli, and spectacular stuffed squash. This is a true taste of the exotic and served with a hearty dose of welcome. Even more tempting is the price. A gullet-stuffing meal will not set you back more than $15AR per person. A couple of wines or liters of Quilmes are available at low prices to cleanse your palette.

The name implies pizza and the porteños with less curious taste buds order large pizzas with typical toppings like fugazetta and ham and cheese. The pizzas, however, are gobbled up with equal enthusiasm and no one leaves hungry. La Mia Casa opens at 8pm and this reviewer recommends arriving early before the good stuff is gone and the tables are taken. An absolute delight.
