Indian Cuisine is something of a rare treat in Buenos Aires, and that is exactly what Katmandu is - a treat for the taste buds. It is one of only two Indian restaurants that this reviewer knows of in the capital. This is in some ways a shame since Indian food is so deliciously exotic, but at the same time makes it that bit more special since there are so few of its kind. The recipes on offer originate from northern India, and the owner has tried to give the restaurant an image that matches this origin. On entering immediately the furniture draws the attention. The wooden reception desk is covered with a cloth canopy, with a huge wooden chest facing it from the other side of the walkway. This chest is one of a number of beautifully carved pieces of traditional indian furniture decorating the restaurant, which can actually be purchsaed from the restaurant. This fascinating furniture combines splendidly with other typically Inidan decorations such as ceramic elephants and colourful material to acheive the desired homage to Northern India. The addition of plants and elegant lighting across the two medium sized floors provides the perfect setting for customers to enjoy a great variety of currys and other delicacies. The food is rich and begs to be shared. Traditional curry or rice dishes are about $25-35AR per plate and prepared to customers' spiciness specifications. Traditionally dressed waiters are mostly bilingual and the menu is printed in English and Spanish. The Patagonian lamb curry is unforgettable and the aromas and flavors make for a special dining experience. Diners can accompany their meals with traditional Indian desserts or drinks - a lovely end to a lovely meal. —Katmandu review by Paul Smithson
