Finis Terra sits right in the center of the roaring nightlife machine that is Palermo Viejo. It tries to differentiate itself from the mass of other bars in the area by being a culture venue as well as drinking hole. They host exhibitions and frequent gigs, featuring a wide variety of genres, including Jazz, Blues, folklórico, Celtic music, Rock and so on. There is no charge for entry and live music is played every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Finis Terra is divided into a restaurants room at the front and a music venue at the back. The front room is dark and rustic, the atmosphere reminiscent of a rural cantina during a power cut. The concert venue features thrift store furniture and a mural depicting a jungle scene. Finis Terra has a small menu with entrees including steaks, pastas and pizzas priced between $9AR and $18AR. Beers (Quilmes, Heineken, Warsteiner) are served in small bottles at around $5AR, and big ones between $6.50AR - $9AR. The wine list is similarly reasonably priced, with bottles ranging from $12AR to $45AR. A glass of house red is $4.50AR. Finis Terra is a very popular spot on weekends when large crowds are drawn to the decent atmosphere that always comes with a live gig. The owner estimates that about seventy per cent of the guests are tourists. —Finis Terra review by Johan Jensen
