Eliot is an elegant bar and restaurant in the heart of chic Palermo SoHo.  The restaurants area at the front of the space is bright and contemporary with a minimalist feel.  The white walls are balanced by three striking curtains in shades of red and purple that decorate a wall-to-ceiling window overlooking the street.  Further in, the bar area is more laid-back and informal; the deep brown, almost reddish, wood paneling adding warmth to the atmosphere.  The classic, deeply upholstered sofas are great for relaxing and watching the focal point of the venue: a really slick modern fireplace.  With the moon peering in through the skylights in the ceiling it feels like a modern, luxurious beach house.  Upstairs are more comfortable sofas, popular with guests enjoying a cigar after their meal.

Eliot’s menu changes every three months to offer Italian-inspired cuisine that reflects the season.  The food is immaculately presented.  Appetizers, prized between $12AR and $21AR, include delicacies like smoked sirloin steak of pork, whereas entrées like ravioli, fettuccine, and risotto range from $21AR to $29AR.  Deserts are $13AR to $15AR.  The lunch menu offers a selection of smaller dishes from the main menu at reduced prices.  A three-course lunch from the set menu is $21AR, including a glass of wine.  Eliot’s wine list is extensive.  Great Argentinean Merlots, Syrahs, Cabernet Sauvignons, and Malbecs are on offer from $30AR to $250AR, the average being closer to $50AR.  Eliot stops serving food at 1.30am, after which the venue becomes a late night bar.  The man serving the drinks, Gabriel Potenza, is ranked as Argentina’s fifth best bartender.  After one or two of his specialty mixed drinks it’s hard to imagine exactly what numbers one through four could possibly be doing better!  Recommendations include the Melon, Apple, and Ginger Martinis, as well as the Eliot Cocktail, a heady brew of vodka, Cointreau, Jägermeister and cranberry juice.  Drinks from the menu vary around $12AR.
