With a name that translates to “Open Bar” how much more information does one need? Like the title suggests, here one will find a large variety of alcohol served at any hour (no, not on the house as the term fortunately means in the U.S.), not to mention a large enough bar menu with pizza ($10-20AR), salads ($10-$15AR), burgers and sandwiches ($9-$15AR) popular with both late night and lunchtime diners. With large window-walls in the front and eight tables outside, this bar truly does feel wide open. Bars are climbing upon one another on Plaza Serrano, and it can be hard to distinguish one from the next. In the daytime, one can notice Bar Abierto for its free WiFi connection- there’s always some foreigner or trendy local on a laptop near an electrical outlet; out of courtesy order at least a $3AR café and you are welcome to spend hours surfing the net for free. During the day, you’ll find a mellow atmosphere, conducive to conversation, work and lounging over slow coffee. When the sun goes down, very little changes. This is no disco, rather it’s a place where people come to sit inside or out, on their way to somewhere or nowhere, but a place to get some food, drink and watch as the young walk by in search of whatever the night will bring. Tables can be hard to come by after 12am, as many people just want to lounge in the middle of the scene, not actually be a part of the chaos that can develop. Come early or late, or anytime. Bar Abierto seems to always be open. —Bar Abierto review by Gena Mavuli
