Abril is the kind of restaurant that has the chef’s name on the awning, and “green tea noodles with fried small squids and mussels with soft crustaceous cream” on the menu, but it manages to pull it off without seeming the least bit obnoxious or highbrow. Maybe it's the antique shop chandeliers with the price tags still hanging from them (its for effect, they're not for sale). Or maybe it’s the candles that have been fashioned out of old tea tins. Whatever it is, Abril is the perfect place to have an intimate conversation and a delicious meal. There are actually three rooms in Abril. The front (which you have to be buzzed into from a small foyer) is painted a dark red, with oil paintings on the walls and a dark oak service bar in one corner. Head towards the back and you’ll find two more rooms around a small courtyard. Abril’s menu is a complex mix of Argentine staples and Asian ingredients, with more than a few twists and turns. Appetizers (like the above-mentioned noodles) cost between $12AR and $22AR, and entrees go from $20AR to $28AR. There’s also a three course menu del día for $28AR. Beers are $5.50AR drinks are $7-10AR, and the wine list starts at $14AR and goes as high as $230AR. —Abril review by Sam Slaughter
