One of Buenos Aires’s landmark clubs, Opera Bay, is well worth a visit if only to admire its wannabe Sydney Opera House architecture.  And to dance the night, and the best part of the following morning away, of course!  Situated in Puerto Madero, right on the water, it has a decidedly maritime feel and views of the docks.  A huge outside dance floor, half of which is covered with a glass ceiling, looks a lot like the deck of an old-fashioned cruise ship.  A cruise ship that attracts hundreds of well-healed young porteños dancing till dawn, that is.  Apart from the view and the abundance of outside space, the real selling point of Opera Bay is the number of separate dance floors and rooms that each offer very different types of music, from Hip-Hop to House, to cheesy eighties Rock’n Roll.  The venue is intensely popular and attracts a great deal of tourists.

Apart from the massive parties on Friday and Saturday nights, Wednesdays are also highly popular.  Things don’t tend to get going until about 2.30-3 o’clock on the weekends, and in true Buenos Aires style, nobody goes home until 7am.  Entry is about AR$30, which includes one drink.  Cocktails and mixed drinks are about $15, whereas small bottles of beer, Stella Artois or Quilmes, cost AR$8.
