Looking for a truly ‘underground’ place that is super chill while being quite hip at the same time? Look no further. Plasma, self-proclaimed as an ‘Artes Living Bar’ is exactly that and is what this reviewer has been looking for for many months now. The staff is also friendly and chill, catering to both foreigners and Porteños alike. Behind a non-descript grey door that is easy to miss, patrons walk up a staircase that is half marble and half diamond-plated metal. The upstairs bar is small, cozy, and dimly lit with great acoustics for the DJ’s and live acts. A lone red spotlight hits the medium sized disco ball adding to the overall atmosphere and ambience. When the upstairs bar fills up they simply open the downstairs which really looks and more so feels like a living room straight out of the late sixties/early seventies, down to each carefully placed record cover hanging on the walls, the hand-crafted tables illuminated from below and the small but cute bar, which again, could be actually in someone’s living room.

Wednesday is a chill DJ-infused night and table space upstairs is easy to come by. Thursday is Tango/Electronica ‘en vivo’ and can vary widely. Friday and Saturday’s are when they pack ‘em in, with various live bands described by owner Nacho Perotti as ‘rock/pop’. Regardless of the night, the ambience is always kickin’ while remaining chill, cool and hip. Plasma keeps the riff-raff out by charging a cover that ranges between $7-$12AR depending on the night and event. All standard mixed drinks cost a mere $8AR.

ate at night, after the normal set of DJ’s (Wednesdays) the longhaired pony-tailed bartender with beard is known to get up on stage and mix prophetically. The first night I discovered this too-cool-for-school spot, he was waxing the CD player with some kick-ass Brazilian funk/pop that kept me there for at least another hour. Plasma also doubles as a recording studio by day with two excellent studios downstairs in the back ($14 $ $18AR/hour). Lastly, they have been known to showcase avant-garde films on off nights as well. You heard it here first.
