One of the best places in Buenos Aires for gringos to rub shoulders with Porteños rubbing shoulders with gringos. The first thing to hit patrons is red lighting so eerie that you might feel you’ve died and gone to the dark side, but then again, that is kind of the idea. Once you get over trying to read the red menu in the red light your eyes will find focus on the hot rod and busty girl graphic design that accompanies a short list of burgers and Tex-Mex fare but the reason for coming is the cocktails and not the French fries, which are served with particularly endearing porteño indifference. The best thing about Mundo Bizarro is the DJ music which can’t be beat here in Buenos Aires and swims the spectrum from little-known Indy groups to toe-tapping Dean Martin, making that Cosmopolitan seem even cooler. Make no mistake - this too-cool, rockabilly, modern, lounge environment is a rare and precious treat for Buenos Aires visitors and locals alike. Mundo Bizarro offers an impressive and pricey cocktail list, a full bar, and a chic environment to see and be seen. There are about 15 tables and a small room in the back with a disco ball – so come early to nab a seat. The volume of the music rises with the chatter as the night presses on and the place reaches capacity around midnight. Monday is Sushi night and Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 2-for-1 drinks, though check out the chalkboard for daily specials.
