Although not at the End of the World, this San Telmo 'Hot Spot' keeps foriegners and locals alike muy contento. Hipsters take heart: there are places in Buenos Aires where you don’t have to listen to Rock Nacional or techno. Finding Frank Sinatra juxtaposed with Prince might come as a bit of a shock, but its all part of the alternative vibe that makes Fin Del Mundo one of the most popular spots in San Telmo. Step inside and the first thing to notice are the array of old vinyl records for sale in crates around the room. The absolute favorites however, are tacked to the walls and the bar, which is where you’ll find Old Blue Eyes and the Artist Formerly Known As. The inside of Fin Del Mundo is small, dark and smoky, with dark red walls and abstract oil paintings hung between the records. The dreadlocked owner spins indie rock CDs behind the bar, and a hip mix of porteños and foreigners engage in intimate conversations and suck down cigarettes at the small tables. Get there early, and get one of the four seats at the bar. There are also a dozen or so curbside tables out on the busy corner of Chile and Defensa, and many patrons prefer to sit there rather than inside, which gets crowded, especially on weekends. FinDel Mundo offers a limited menu of sandwiches and hamburgers for around $8AR. It also has large antipastas that can feed up to six people. Liters of Heineken and Stella Artois are $8AR, and for those in the mood for something darker there are 330 ml bottles of Negro Modelo and Guiness. Mixed drinks cost between $9 and $16AR, depending on the brand of alcohol. —Fin Del Mundo review by Sam Slaughter
