”El Podesta, Super Club de Copas” is the claim, and one visit will have party-goers nodding emphatically in agreement. The club is extremely popular with Argentines and tourists alike. There are two quite large floors with both seating and dancing areas. Both floors glow red from the wall-lights adorning the sides. Somehow it avoids seedy Amsterdam connotations and achieves an ambience of inviting dancefloor ambience. Downstairs the tunes are a mixture of 80s and 90s hits mixed with disco classics. There is more seating area on this floor for those who are not quite ready to strut their stuff, or perhaps strutted a little too much for one night! Upstairs the music is electonica. Refreshingly it is not as mercylessly pounding as in other electronica clubs here in Buenos Aires. Because of the slightly milder music one can relax on the white couches in the centre and chat with friends without feeling obliged to dance all night. Arrive before 1am to take advantage of free entry and a tempting array of drink offers. After that, the entry price jumps up to $15AR and $25AR for girls and boys respectively, but the night is well worth this price. Obviously others agree as can be seen by the queue outside that develops as the night goes on. —El Podesta review by Paul Smithson
