Cátulo is a pretty non-descript restaurant and bar in Palermo Viejo, which hosts gigs every weekend.  The plain walls with landscape paintings and the standard restaurant furniture makes this a pretty unspectacular place with very little in the way of an identity.  The positive side is that  a group of friends can turn Cátulo into whatever they’re in the mood for; a raucous bar, a quiet eatery or a place to chill after a night out.  Similarly the bands who perform can pretend to be in a rock bar, a blues bar, a tango bar or a folklórico bar all depending on.  It’s a blank canvas to be filled by whatever the performer of the moment has in mind.  Just don’t count on Cátulo to provide much by way of inspiration.  Gigs start at about ten every Friday and Saturday night, with the cover charge varying around the $10AR mark.

Cátulo’s menu includes pizzas at $10AR, as well as pastas, picadas and paellas.  Red wines are between $13AR and $50AR, whereas whites range from $13AR to $20AR.  Quilmes provides all the beer, with a one liter bottle costing $8AR and a glass $5AR.  Cocktails like Orgasmo, Sex on the Beach, and the decidedly less seductively named piel de iguana (“Iguana skin”) are all $10AR.  Look out for special deals such as for example a pizza and a liter of beer for a bargain $16AR.
