Deserving of special mention is the Universidad de Buenos Aires, which offers Español para Extranjeros (Spanish for foreigners) courses. The University's Laboratorio de Idiomas(languages campus) is centrally located and there are several perks to taking Spanish here. Class size is limited to 15 students so classes offer a great balance of personal attention and socializing. UBA classes are also a great way to meet other foreigners living in or visiting Buenos Aires and when your common ground is speaking Spanish together - it is great practice.

The quality of the teaching is generally wonderful however, the materials are lacking from the quality one might expect from one of the most celebrated universities in Latin America. Despite this, UBA is far and away one of the best, most affordable options in the city. There are 8 Spanish levels and all students are assessed through an oral and written exam to be placed in the correct level. Upon completion of each level, students receive a certificate when they pass the final exam. Classes are slightly discounted if students have completed a previous level.

One of the best things about taking classes at UBA is the charm. The Laboratorio de Idiomas is located in the beating heart of the city in a centuries-old building. The building is charming with its peeling paint, non-functioning elevators, leaking ceilings, broken desks, and general maintenance problems. It will take a serious stretch of the imagination to envision the five star hotel that once occupied the space. This is a truly authentic educational experience and recommended highly. Classes in other languages include: English, Italian, German, French, Portuguese, and Japanese.

Cost: Approx $690AR for first-time students, approx $500AR for returning students plus additional $15-25AR for materials.
