Buenos Aires certainly has its share of high-end hotels. Most of these try to sell a double image of luxury tourist accommodation and fully-functioning business center. The Hotel InterContinental is no exception. Its marble floors, artwork, and overall classy design let guests know they are in an upscale place from the moment they enter. However, the video conferencing equipment, digital projectors, and private offices and cellular phones available for rent prove that a large portion of the InterContinental’s clientele is people in Buenos Aires to do business. For the more pleasure-inclined guests, other amenities include an indoor pool and fitness center, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room, on-site masseuse, and nearby golf and tennis courts. Within walking distance from the InterContinental’s Montserrat location is the financial district (six blocks), Florida Street (four), Teatro Colon(eleven), and Plaza Dorrego in San Telmo (ten). Also close by is the Casa Rosada and Plaza de Mayo, Manzana de Las Luces, and Puerto Madero. The Terraza del Virrey is a lovely place to enjoy the complimentary breakfast and coffee on sunny days. The styling of the rooms, and of the hotel in general, is rather traditional, but a sense of time-honored elegance permeates. This is not the newest, nor the swankiest, nor the most exclusive place in town, but it feels very comfortable and its services are on par with its competitors, and its price tag is lower than many. No surprises here, just good old-fashioned luxury with every modern convenience.
