The Alvear Palace Hotel is where old world money and charm meet new world technology, comfort, and convenience. Between the sweeping rugs, elegant chandeliers, and impeccable service, visitors will not find it hard to believe that guests include international royalty the Price of Wales and the King of Malaysia. The hotel is, therefore, appropriately located in the heart of glamorous Recoleta with its classic French architecture and state-of-the-art shopping malls. When leaving the castle, the Alvear Palace is the only possible substitute. The hotel was opened in 1932 and the idea was to provide a place that felt like home for Europeans. Architects Pirovano and Brodsky who designed the elegant and now-famous exterior accomplished this mission. While many hotels strive for modernity, Alvear Palace prides itself in its antiquity and stands out through its elaborate and classic décor in the style of Louis XVI. Though the décor is gloriously dated, corners have nowhere been cut in modern amenities. This five star beauty has it all and their staff (a small army of tireless professionals) is dedicated to the guests happiness from start to finish. Elaborate breakfast buffets, personal butler server, WiFi in all rooms, flower and fruit, DVD players, health club, bathrooms with Jacuzzi and television, and special rates for Jet Lag recovery massage are among the many perks. Staying in the company of prices and kings is strictly for high rollers. For taking tea, cocktails or dinner, Alvear Palce offers beautiful options including L’Orangerie for Sunday Brunch, La Bourgogne with its sumptuous French plates, La Taste Vins for wine tasting, and the Lobby Bar to unwind after work. For groups and corporate events there are event and banquet rooms for up to 1500. Make no mistake that the Alvear Palace is fit for a king – just ask him. —Alvear Palace Hotel review by Clare Nisbet
