Buenos Aires Getaways

Peru Beach

Peru Beach is where one goes when they want to get out of the city to enjoy the great outdoors. Activities like windsailing, simulated rock climbing, or just spending the entire afternoon sharing a pitcher of white sangria or Quilmes beer and more can be done here.

There are a few small soccer courts and a roller hockey rink here, though both are generally reserved all day on weekends. On Sundays, the place is packed with the young and beautiful porteños, along with the local, upper class crowds of nearby San Isidrio, Vincente Lopez, and Tigre.

While the name may imply a large, sandy beach with sports, cafés, and open spaces, the beach is in fact a large patch of grass about the size of a volleyball court with a small dock over a marsh that then leads into the ocean. There is a path through the swampy area for the water-sports access to the river, but it is far from the Caribbean image that may come to mind.

Getting there

To get here, take the train from the Retiro station to the Acassuso stop, technically in the town of San Isidro. When you get off the train, take Calle Peru towards the river - walking in the direction of the train to your right hand side. Follow the street through a residential neighborhood for about half a mile, and you’ll see a busy area with a few shops and cars parked anywhere possible. Walking along the busy street, there is an underpass on the right hand side that leads through to the bustling Peru Beach.
