Avenida Santa Fe 1270 (@ Talcahuano)
Busy Avenida Santa Fe is filled with fun for loose credit cards and bargain hunters alike. Those, however, with an original style and the energy to search through the trash for treasure should head straight for Galería 5ta Avenida. This is the place to visit for funky retro styles from wing-tip shoes to bandanas and greaser jeans. Many stores have both new and vintage clothing ranging from the absurd to the absolutely priceless.
On the street level you will find Abraxas music store - one of Buenos Aires' best - where visitors can stock up on delights like Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds B-Sides & Rarities, Massive Attack, or search through stacks of vinyl. From there, clothes and shoes rule from Sexsi (Pepsi) shirts to estilo 80's plastic jewelry. One of the t-shirt stores in the back is the place to find David Bowie and Velvet Underground shirts. A store whose name is Hi Freaks! says it all, really.
Upstairs is That 70's Store, which also has an outlet store with fantastic prices in the subsuelo (underground level). As many of these stores buy and sell clothes, it is imperative to come with the energy to find buried treasure amongst the rest. But this is a great place for people with nostalgia, Betty Page fans, rockabillies, and others who want to stand out in a crowd. If you are used to blending in, Galería 5ta Avenida might inspire you to perfect your personal style.
